Information
Beautiful antique fireplace made of blue-gray marble from the Besancon region, Burgundy France.
Marble is a metamorphic rock that originated in limestone. Under the influence of extreme pressure and temperature, however, the molecular and mineral structure of limestone changes and rearranges into a new rock: Marble.
Marble, on the other hand, is a rock where the above metamorphosis has not been fully completed.
Marble has therefore some characteristic features of marble such as hardness and the ability to sweeten and fine to cut, but also maintains the sober and quiet appearance of French limestone.
This antique mantelpiece is distinguished on the one hand by fine framework and on the other hand with the characteristic features of incomplete metamorphosis, whereby the blue-gray basic color is mixed with yellow and even red shades. An antique fireplace with this tri-colores color shade is unique and only very rare.
