Monumental 18th century French limestone wellhead. This antique ornamental well head is perfectly hand carved and characterized by typically Louis XIV style roundings. Please notice its condition and beautiful patina weathered with moss and lichen that changes with the seasons.
To be used in a modern traditional Spanish or French design as an interior planter or a pot jardinière planter for a tree. To be used as a beautiful garden ornament or as a water feature fountain. Otherwise this French wellhead might also be a focal point as a statement piece in a high end garden landscape.
Before modern plumbing existed, the main source of fresh water came from cisterns that collected rainwater, often in the center of public square. Wellheads were also often added to fresh water wells to protect them from debris falling in and allowed ease of access.
