Top-quality limestone floorings
We source the antique dalles de Bourgogne stone flooring mainly in the Bourgogne region of France. The Burgundy region is well known as one of France's main wine producing areas. It is well known for both its red and white wines. Besides these famous vineyards, the Bourgogne region has a longstanding reputation of top-quality limestone quarries where since ages, local artisans sourced their building materials for paving, cladding, fireplaces and fountains. In the Provence, south of France, we also find other antique stone floorings like Bar Gris and Bar de Montpellier. These floor tiles have a unique grey color, which is typical for this region. These old stone floorings were paved in old farmhouses, cellars and chateaus where successive generations who lived in these old homes refined the patina of these French limestone tiles shaping them into magnificent pavers suitable for everyday use.
Antique Burgundy stone floor tiles
In the past, the antique French stone from the Bourgogne, an incredibly hard limestone, had to be split by hand rather than sawing it into dalles. Originally hand hewn, these antique French floor tiles traditionally varies in sizes. Our antique stone slabs therefore come in various dimensions and work best when installed in an open or Roman pattern. We reclaim these stones from ancient buildings like churches, farmhouse and chateaus that are undergoing renovation. We do the demolition works carefully and ship the antique stone slabs carefully to our warehouse. In our workshop we clean the antique Burgundy stone floor tiles carefully. The original limestone slabs are up to 9" thick. We usually cut the antique limestone slabs down to a thickness of 1 1/4", so shipping costs is cheaper and installation is much easier. The first cut is called the original top-quality first cut, which yields the original surface, patina and texture.
We also offer the original dalles de Bourgogne in the second cut, which is much cheaper. These old stone floorings will provide an incomparable character with their warm color range, random sizes and unique finishes. Due to its extreme density the antique stone floorings are suitable for any interior or exterior use, even in hard freeze climates. Like French terracotta tile flooring, the French dalles de Bourgogne limestone will continue to patina over the years, adding to it's richness of color and texture. Call us and we will provide you the installation instructions to lay this antique stone flooring in your kitchen, wine cellar or dining room.
